UCL Computer Science Aspire Scholarship Award

Windsor Fellowship is working with University College London (UCL) to provide  a undergraduate scholarship that reduces financial barriers and improves representation of students from Black or mixed Black ethnic backgrounds within the department – New scholarship to support Black students launched at UCL Computer Science

About the scholarship

Three scholarships are available to prospective undergraduate students who identify as the target group and intend to the Computer Science BSc Undergraduate, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng or Computer Science MEng programmes.

The scholarships cover full tuition fees plus an annual allowance for living and study expenses (£18,062) during the normal duration of their UCL programme. All Aspire scholars will also receive on-going academic and career support during their studies.

Eligibility criteria for 2023

a) Eligible candidates must meet all the mandatory criteria:

  • Based in the UK with home fee status or be a forced migrant (as defined by UCL)
  • be from a Black or mixed Black Ethnic background
  • have not completed undergraduate study either at UCL or elsewhere previously
  • have accepted an offer of admission to study Computer Science BSc Undergraduate, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng or Computer Science MEng programmes for the 2023 intake.

 

b) Eligible candidates must also meet at least one of the additional criteria detailed below.

  • be in financial need as assessed by UCL(household income of less than £42,875)
  • receive (or were eligible for) free school meals
  • have a disability (underrepresented group in Higher Education)
  • be a care leaver(underrepresented group in Higher Education)
  • attend (or have attended) a low-performing school for either GCSE or A-level
  • live in a disadvantaged neighbourhood (we use POLAR classificationand/or Index of Multiple of Deprivation (IMD) data to identify levels of financial, social, economic or educational deprivation, as defined by home postcode)

How to apply

  1. Apply to UCL via UCAS website for a place on the Computer Science BSc Undergraduate programme, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng, or Computer Science MEng programme for the 2023 intake by no later than 25 January 2023
  2. When you receive a final unconditional confirmation of your place on either the Computer Science BSc Undergraduate programme, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng or Computer Science MEng programme, you can apply for the Computer Science Aspire Award scheme. Application form –  Aspire Award Application, to be completed by 1 September 2023
  3. Successful applicants who have met their ‘A’ level grade requirement will be invited to engage in a one-to-one dialogue with the Windsor Fellowship to discuss their application for the Aspire Award. We encourage you to apply early as the dialogues will commence from the week beginning 21 August 2023

Selection Criteria

The selection panel will assess your application based on the information provided on your online Aspire Award application form and the information you provide in your one-to-one dialogue with the Windsor Fellowship. UCL will make the final decision and will contact the scholarship awardees by Friday 8th September 2023.
