Windsor Fellowship is working with University College London (UCL) to provide a undergraduate scholarship that reduces financial barriers and improves representation of students from Black or mixed Black ethnic backgrounds within the department – Aspire scholarship to support Black students launched at UCL Computer Science
About the scholarship
Scholarships starting in September 2026, are available to students to prospective undergraduate students who identify as the target group and intend to the study only one of the UCL’s undergraduate programmes below:
- Computer Science BSc
- Computer Science MEng
- Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng
- Computer Science and Mathematics MEng (please note that there has been a change in the name)
N.B: Students applying for the Aspire Award who are studying the following two programmes are not eligible for the scholarship:
- Engineering Foundation Year
- Philosophy and Computer Science BA
The scholarships cover full tuition fees plus an annual allowance for living and study expenses (£20,000) during the normal duration of their UCL programme. All Aspire scholars will also receive on-going academic and career support during their studies.
Eligibility criteria for 2026
Eligible candidates must meet all the mandatory criteria:
- Based in the UK with home fee status or be a forced migrant (as defined by UCL)
- be from a Black or mixed Black Ethnic background
- have not completed undergraduate study either at UCL or elsewhere previously
- have accepted an offer of admission to study Computer Science BSc undergraduate, Computer Science MEng, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng or Computer Science and Mathematics MEng programmes for the 2026 intake.
Additional eligibility criteria
Eligible candidates must also meet at least one of the additional criteria detailed below:
- be in financial need as assessed by UCL (household income of less than £42,875)
- receive (or were eligible for) free school meals
- have a disability (an underrepresented group in Higher Education)
- be a care leaver (an underrepresented group in Higher Education)
- attend (or have attended) a low-performing school for either GCSE or A-level
- live in a disadvantaged neighbourhood (we use POLAR classification and/or Index of Multiple of Deprivation (IMD) data to identify levels of financial, social, economic or educational deprivation, as defined by home postcode)

Selection process
Stage 1 – Complete the online application form and the financial information form together with your application form by September 2026.
NB: The application form and financial information form will be made available when the applications open in August 2026.
Stage 2 – Successful candidates will be invited to attend a virtual Assessment Centre with the Windsor Fellowship in September 2026.
Stage 3 – UCL to select and inform successful Scholars.
Applications will close in September 2026.
