Google DeepMind Computer Science Scholarships

The Windsor Fellowship is working with University College London (UCL) to offer scholarships funded by Google DeepMind to students who will be undertaking specific courses within the Department of Computer Science.

The Google DeepMind Scholarships are positive action initiatives to help UCL ensure that it can attract and support students from all sections of the community, particularly groups that are under-represented in post-graduate studies.

Google DeepMind Computer Science Scholarships will cover tuition fees in full and provide a £18,000 maintenance stipend. Additionally, £2,200 is provided to cover attendance at relevant academic conferences (either in person or virtually). A further £1,700 is provided as an equipment grant.

Eligibility

The scholarships are available for UK (Home fee status) & Overseas (International fee status) course applicants who will be undertaking one of the following courses on a full-time basis:

  1. Machine Learning (MSC)
  2. AI for Sustainable Development (MSc)
  3. Data Science and Machine Learning (MSc)
  4. Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (MSc)
  5. Artificial Intelligence for Biomedicine and Healthcare (MSc)
  6. Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (MSc)

Additionally, candidates must be from at least one of the following under-represented groups within Computer Science:

  1. Identify as Black-African or Black-Caribbean
  2. Identify as female
  3. From a household with an annual income of less than £25,000

How to Apply

Stage 1 – You must have submitted an application to a relevant UCL Computer Science course (as outlined above) before applying for the scholarship separately. You will be required to provide your UCL student number as part of the application process.

Stage 2 – To apply, please use this online application form and submit the Financial Information Form 2024-25. The closing date for applications is Monday 3 June 2024 at 11.59pm BST and all applicants will be updated on the outcome of their application by early July.

Stage 3 – Windsor Fellowship will assess and shortlist the scholarship applications based on financial need and socio-economic background. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview (either in person or virtually) with the Windsor Fellowship.

Please note: UCL ordinarily requires those with confirmed offers to pay a tuition fee deposit of £2,000 within 4 weeks of an offer being made. Please email cs.pgt-admissions@ucl.ac.uk ideally within 1 week of receiving an offer to confirm your scholarship application, so UCL’s systems can be updated to defer your deposit date before it becomes due. This will postpone your deposit due date until after scholarship decisions have been made, at which point, non-awardees will become liable for the full amount of the deposit.
